What is a DHI Hair Transplant?

By the age of 50, more than 85% of males have thinning hair, and 50% of women will also noticeably lose hair over the course of their lifespan. To aid in the regrowth of lost hair, several different hair transplant methods have been created. The two most popular procedures are follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE).

A variation of the FUE procedure is direct hair implantation (DHI). Before inserting hair follicles, a surgeon manually creates channels in your scalp during FUE. They employ a specific pen-shaped tool designed for DHI that can do the two tasks, channeling and transplanting, simultaneously.

DHI, which is an innovative hair restoration treatment, employs an implanter pen to rapidly and almost painlessly restore hair loss in both men and women. The DHI procedure is based on the graft extraction – transplantation method, in which grafts are implanted after being collected from a donor area (a part on the body from which hair is taken, typically the back of the head).

For the most natural-looking results in hair transplant surgeries, the DHI technique is recognised as a breakthrough. With very minimal impact on the integrity of the skin, the implanter pen allows for more dense hair implantation and allows for partial head-shaving shaving during hair transplant procedures. The two stages of the DHI hair implant are graft extraction and then graft implantation.

The DHI Hair Transplant Procedure

The two stages of the DHI hair implant are graft extraction and graft insertion.

DHI Extraction Process:

  1. The donor area is shaved.
  2. With the aid of a 0,7 mm, 0,8 mm, or 1,00 mm micro motor punch device or manual punch tool, the grafts are carefully chosen and extracted with the best density ratio.

DHI Insertion Process

  1. Expert hair transplant technicians carefully place grafted hair follicles in the hollow needle tips of various implanter pens.
  2. By depressing the plunger, the implanter pen’s spring mechanism is activated. Thus, a graft for scalp hair is placed under the skin at a desired angle using the sharp tip of an implanter pen that is loaded with hair follicles.
  3. The DHI pen is filled with hair grafts, which are then promptly implanted.
  4. Every hair graft is meticulously placed during this process, and a DHI hair transplant typically takes 5 to 6 hours.

The Ice DHI Method Option

The Ice or frozen method is not a new hair transplant method, but rather a new approach to the way the hair follicles are stored and treated between the harvest and the transplant stage.

The hair is placed in transplanting containers after the surgeon has properly selected the hair and retrieved the follicles from the donor area. Isotonics are used to help improve and preserve their health. The therapy that the hair grafts get during the frozen DHI hair transplant greatly increases their chance of survival.

The Benefits of Having a DHI Hair Transplant

The fact that the DHI hair transplant method allows complete control over the angle, depth, and placement of the hair and produces results that look completely natural is its most significant benefit. The common outcome of this treatment is that twelve months after the procedure, the complete results start to show.

  • By applying this technique, hair follicles remain outside the tissue for a shorter period of time, allowing a healthier planting opportunity.
  • With this technique, the survival rate of the hair follicles is a lot higher.
  • The bleeding is reduced to a minimum due to the incision area.
  • This method enables denser implanting.
  • This procedure allows for a much faster recovery.
  • There is no need to save for the top scalp hairs.

DHI Hair Transplant Instructions Before Surgery

Before your surgery, you will have been given a list of instructions to follow; these requirements must be met. The instructions may include the following.

  • You must stop smoking at least 24 hours before surgery, as smoking can prolong the healing process.
  • Stop drinking alcohol a week before your DHI hair transplant. To speed up the recovery process and minimise the bleeding.
  • Refrain yourself from having a haircut by ensuring enough donor hair for the examination before the transplant.
  • Ten minutes a day for a month before your procedure message your scalp to ensure good blood flow, softer skin, and improved skin tone.
  • Depending on your age, you may require an ECG and blood test. Your doctor will inform you of this if necessary.
  • The intake of anti-inflammatory and aspirins must be stopped at least two weeks before your surgery. As this could thin your blood and increase the tendency of bleeding.

DHI Hair Transplant Instructions After Surgery

Please adhere to our recommended personal after-surgery hair care routine to ensure a quick and painless recovery.

  • Your head’s recipient area for the hair transplant will remain bare while the donor area will be covered with a thin bandage. During the first three days following surgery, avoid touching the recipient areas at all costs. The grafts will dry out and lightly adhere to the recipient channels during this brief period. Maintain an elevated position with the head still for the entire three hours.
  • Approximately three hours after the operation, you can retire to bed and sleep. The optimum sleeping position is on your back, which will allow the neck pillow to support the donor areas of your head. Try to avoid anything touching the recipient areas.
  • The next day after the operation, you will be able to continue your regular daily activities. The day after surgery or at any time afterwards, you are free to take a flight or use another mode of transportation.
  • You can begin light physical exercise 5 days after the surgery. heavy physical exercises or full sports activities, in general, may be started or resumed 4 weeks after the DHI hair transplant.
  • You can begin washing your head four days after the operation. After the first washing day, you should wash your hair once or twice a day until the scabs have fallen off and the transplanted area is clean. This may need washing for 10 to 15 days after your initial start. Once the third week has passed, you can resume your regular washing schedule.
